Quick Money Moves: Simple Tips for Financial Confidence

Managing money doesn’t have to be complicated. A few small habits can help you save more, reduce stress, and plan for the future. Here are the basics every Trenton Housing Authority (THA) resident can start today.

1. Know Where Your Money Goes

Create a simple budget:

  • Track your income (wages, benefits, other sources)
  • List fixed expenses (rent, utilities, transportation)
  • Note everyday spending (food, household items)

Even saving a small amount each month can build an emergency cushion.

2. Use Banking to Your Advantage

A bank or credit union can help you:

  • Pay bills safely
  • Track spending
  • Avoid carrying cash

Look for low fees, easy access, and good customer service. Check your account regularly to catch mistakes and stay on track.

3. Build Better Credit

Good credit can help with housing, loans, and major purchases.

Start with these habits:

  • Pay bills on time
  • Keep credit card balances low
  • Check your credit report for errors
  • Avoid opening too many new accounts

4. Protect Yourself from Scams

Keep your information safe:

  • Don’t share personal or banking details with unknown contacts
  • Avoid suspicious links or messages
  • Use strong passwords
  • Review your accounts often

If something feels off, pause and verify before acting.

5. Set One Simple Goal

Start small and stay consistent:

  • Save a little each week
  • Pay one bill early
  • Review your spending monthly
  • Learn one new money skill

Small steps lead to real progress.
