Audrey Walker is a dedicated public servant and lifelong resident of Trenton, New Jersey. She received her early education at Our Lady of Divine Shephard School, public junior high and a graduate of Trenton Central High School. Audrey continued her education at Mercer County College where she earned a degree in Business Administration and served as the inaugural secretary of the college’s first Black Student Union.

 

After 40 years of service, Mrs. Walker retired from Trenton Housing Authority (THA) on January 31, 2024. On August 26, 2024, she was sworn in as a Trenton Housing Authority Board Commissioner, determined to help to ensure that the agency’s progress would continue well into the future.

 

During her tenure at THA, Mrs. Walker distinguished herself through dedication, leadership, and a passion for resident empowerment. She began her career as a Tenant Interviewer and steadily advanced to Supervisor of Tenant Selection then to Manager of Admissions & Occupancy. Following 2020 COVID -19 pandemic, Mrs. Walker was promoted to Director of Housing Operations tasked with restoring stability and guiding the agency through a challenging period. As Director of Housing Operations, she was responsible for overseeing the operation of all Asset Management Projects across the agency, developing and implementing policies and procedures related to effective asset management and compliance. She holds certifications in PHM, COS, BOM, SBS.

 

Mrs. Walker is also a breast cancer survivor and the cofounder and president of the Healing Stream Breast Cancer Awareness Organization (HSBCA), a non-profit supporting women and families affected by breast cancer. Under her leadership with a team of 12 talented and devoted women, HSBCA have grown into a vital community resource. The organization have hosted the largest annual 5K breast cancer awareness walk in Trenton/ Mercer County, they award college scholarships to students impacted by the disease and annually, they host a day of rest and release for women actively undergoing breast cancer treatment. Mrs. Walker and the HSBCA have received Congressional, Senatorial, Assembly and Mayoral recognition for unwavering commitment to raising awareness and supporting those affected.

 

In addition to her professional and nonprofit work, Mrs. Walker has served on numerous boards and contributed to various political campaigns at the city, county, and state levels.Her board service includes: United Progress Incorporated as a Board Member, True Servant Church Community Development Corporation (CDC) where she served as a Director and Chair of the Board, Trenton Marriott Hotel as a Trustee and Trenton/Mercer Continuum of Care as an Executive Board Member. Above all else, Mrs. Walker is a woman of faith, a wife, mother, grandmother & great grandmother. Her legacy is one of leadership, service, strength, and steadfast commitment to God, family and community.

The Application Process

Complete your pre-application

During this phase, we confirm your eligibility with a series of background questions so we can place you on the list for one of our communities.

Complete your full application

When you are at the top of the housing list, we work with you to confirm all HUD and THA eligibility factors. All adult family members living in household must complete personal declaration and information release forms. Then you get to meet with THA staff to review, finalize and sign your application. Once you’re approved, we can schedule your move in!
