Commissioner

Tanzania S. Green, better known as “Tanzi,” was born and raised in Trenton, NJ. After graduating from Trenton Central High School-West Campus, Commissioner Green received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Shaw University. Later, she earned a master’s degree in Urban Planning with a specialization in Land Use and Environmental Planning from Alabama A&M University, where she also became a member of The AAMU Planning Association.

 

Commissioner Green was appointed to the Trenton Housing Authority by Trenton City Council and sworn in July 22, 2022.

 

Commissioner Green began her community advocate service at a young age as a member of the Trenton NAACP Youth Council, where she served as Youth Council and College Chapter President. She also served as the Trenton branch’s NJ State Youth VP and Executive Secretary. Ms. Green was nominated by the State of NJ to represent all Youth Leadership in 2007 for the Jr. National Young Leaders Conference, and was the recipient of the 2007 Youth Award at the Trenton branch, Freedom Fund Dinner.

 

As an active NAACP Member, Ms. Green has organized and participated in protests against violence in Trenton and has been the host of various fundraising events.

 

During her time in Alabama, Ms. Green was employed at the Edmonton Height Family Life Center and served as the AmeriCorps Vista Coordinator, and a Program Manager at the AAMU Community Development Corporation. Ms. Green simultaneously served as a board member for AAMU Community Development Corporation and the Edmonton Heights Historic Neighborhood Association from 2015 to 2017.

 

Ms. Green has also served as Community Affairs Program Development Specialist and Vulnerable Populations Outreach Coordinator for the City of Trenton.

 

Ms. Green is a member of the South Ward Neighborhood Association and the CEO for “Sippin’ with a Sister,” a social networking event geared toward African American millennials. She is a board member of Islay Walden Institute for Urban Education and a Primary Associate Teacher at Christina Seix Academy in Trenton, NJ.

The Application Process

Complete your pre-application

During this phase, we confirm your eligibility with a series of background questions so we can place you on the list for one of our communities.

Complete your full application

When you are at the top of the housing list, we work with you to confirm all HUD and THA eligibility factors. All adult family members living in household must complete personal declaration and information release forms. Then you get to meet with THA staff to review, finalize and sign your application. Once you’re approved, we can schedule your move in!
