Governance

The THA is an autonomous body that is chartered by the State of New Jersey and partially funded, with capital grants and operating subsidies, by the federal government through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The THA is governed by a seven-member Board of Commissioners. Five of the Commissioners are appointed by the Council of the City of Trenton, one is appointed by the Mayor of the City of Trenton and one is appointed by the Commissioner of the NJ DCA. Commissioners are appointed for five-year terms.

Pursuant to Redevelopment and Housing Law, N.J.S.A. 40A:12A-1, et seq., the THA is required to employ an Executive Director. The Executive Director serves as the Secretary to the Board of Commissioners and is the Chief Executive Officer of the agency.
